Fear is contagious. So is courage.

There’s only one way to be effective under pressure: practise scared. Real performance doesn’t come from waiting until you feel ready. It comes from deciding to be brave before you feel ready. When you stop treating fear as a weakness and start recognising it as useful information, you build the ability to respond with clarity and purpose.
Confidence follows, but it’s not the aim.
Meet Sarah Furness
Former combat helicopter pilot, author, and performance expert
Sarah spent over two decades leading and making decisions when the stakes were real and the consequences of mistakes could be fatal.. Sarah learned, the hard way, that pressure doesn’t reveal character, it reveals training.
Today, she helps leaders understand that performing under pressure is not just about charisma and confidence (though these things help of course).. It’s about building competence through consistent action, reflection, and learning, especially when things don’t go to plan. Drawing on frontline experience and deep work in human factors and “military grade mindfulness”, Sarah translates pressure into practical tools that help people think clearly, act deliberately, and improve over time, not by avoiding mistakes, but by learning from them.
